The smartest way to tackle this job is do what the professional do, put all this information down on paper. Most people have a idea of what garden style they like, and if you don't start looking in magazines or on the internet and you will find yourself being drawn to a certain style. This process also helps if you are thinking about hiring a professional landscaper. Showing them garden designs that you like helps them create the space you want. Before you begin your garden design ask yourself how much time do I have to spend taking care of the space? A person, like myself, finds it very relaxing to be out in the garden pruning, weeding and planting flowers. But my husband thinks of it like hard work and he needs a garden that requires very little maintenance. It is also helpful to make a list of what you would like to have in your garden. Some of the elements you may want is arbors, decks, walks, or perennial beds. The best way to think about how any outdoor space is to be designed and arranged is to look at it as an outdoor room. Your new "garden room" needs it own style that convey the mood and style that is uniquely your own. Your style and type of your house you have is another important aspect in deciding your garden design. If your house is modern with sleek lines you would not use a cottage style garden design.
