Garden Nursery

A garden nursery should not only have a wide selection of plants but offers guidance and information on the plants. There are many great garden nurseries, if you are novice gardener and just starting your landscape design, shop around and find one that best suits your needs.

Tips on finding a great garden nursery

When searching for that perfect garden nursery  go by your first impression.  When you walk in the nursery is it clean and organized and the plants look healthy, this alone tells you that the owners and employees take pride in their business. Do they have a wide selection of  perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees and does it look like you can find everything you need for your garden design. A perfect example is the picture above, it looks like it has a array of plants and is nicely presented and it provides nice clean isles for anyone to wander.

Next I call my 15 minute rule. I expect someone to come up and ask if they can help me. If you are new at gardening you want a garden nursery that can help you and educate  you on the different plants and what their requirement are. Does the person seem to be friendly and knowledgeable?  A expert gardener once gave me great advice when shopping for a garden nursery. Before goingIs the staff friendly and knowledgable at the garden nursery. to the nursery, find a plant that you like and educate yourself on that plant, does it need sun or is it a shade lover, the water requirement and etc.   Ask the person who is assisting you questions on this plant and see if they give you the right answer.  Take a garden project, perhaps you want to create a flower garden, see if the garden nursery  takes the time to show you what type of flowers you can use in the garden and help lay out a plan for you.

Make sure the garden nursery specialize in plants that thrive in your area. One of the questions I ask do they grow their own plants or get their plants from local sources. I found that plants that are grown in your area are already climatizes to the soil and weather and do better. Find out what services they offer, many offer landscape planning and free landscape sketches. Do they have a landscape architect on staff or offer landscaping services.  Many nursery will come to your home, and offer free consultation and landscaping  design if you use their plants or staff to do your landscaping.

Location and pricing of the plant is another important aspect of choosing a perfect garden nursery. If you are ready to create that perfect garden oasis's you will want the nursery to be close to your home. Whatever garden project you are creating you will find that you need a couple more plants or maybe more mulch and want that garden nursery close to your home to run to get those extra supplies you forgot or needed. Pricing is always foremost in any gardener project. I believe you get what you pay for, a local garden nursery can be more expensive, but I find paying a few dollars more can provide me with healthy plants and the expert personal service is worth it.

Find expert advice on garden nursery.Ask the garden nursery if they offer guarantee on their plants, and what it entails. If you are doing a large landscaping project or a whole yard find a person on the garden nursery staff that you can work with and ask for this person, be on first name basic with this person. This will save you money and time because they know your project and you don't have to explain it or show plans every time you come to the nursery.  Many expert gardeners will say they got most of the gardening knowledge from their local garden nursery. Take the time to find the one that fixes your needs and it wouldn't be long and you will be on first name basis with your garden nursery.
