New Home & Garden Cedar ParkCedar Park, Texas is closed to Austin, Texas and has seen tremulous  growth in the last 10 years. Cedar Park is situated at the beginning of the beautiful hill country of central Texas. Cedar Park offers a excellent lifestyle for families with a feel of country living but still only 10 minutes from Austin. For families recreation, Lake Travis is only 5 minutes away. Many families with children move to Cedar Park because of the  excellent rated school system.

If you are considering moving to Cedar Park, TX. the median house is around $176,000 making it one of the most affordable place to live in the United States. Springtime in the Hill Country is lovely with its native Texas wildflowers turning the hillsides into a garden of color. One of the most scenic drives, starts in Cedar Park to Marble Falls to Burnet and back to Cedar Park, a total driving distance of 90 miles.

If you are moving to Cedar Park, and a gardener you will find some challenges. Because we are in the hill country the soil is mostly fill with rock and because it is limestone is a very alkaline soil. For any flowers or vegetable garden you will have to amend the soil or bring some top soil in. A Rock garden can be a perfect choice for gardening in Cedar Park. The mild climate with hardly any  freezing temperature provides gardening all year around.

Guide for New Home & Garden Cedar Park

In a Cedar Park garden you can have color all year. The best thing about living in central Texas, or the Cedar Park area is your garden can have color all year around. Spring time starts in Cedar Park around the middle of March where some fall planning can give you a beautiful spring garden. Planting red poppies seeds and yellow daffodil bulb and iris in the fall will give you some beautiful spring colors.  For winter color, pansies and violas bloom all winter and they are still beautiful in the spring to add the extra punch. I use the yellow and purple colors so they will go beautiful with the poppies seed and yellow daffodils and blue irises. There are also many flowering trees like dogwoods, mountain laurel (smells great too) and the peaches tree start blooming. Vines like carolina jasmine is beautiful and planted close to a patio or the front door will give you a wonderful sweet smell. Lady bank rose are thorn-less and offer a perfusion of dainty yellow flowers, great to hide those ugly fences. Just throwing some wildflower seeds in your garden beds can produces a beautiful spring garden.

Cedar Park can offer you a topical garden with palms and ferns.Summer in Cedar Park produces beautiful flowers from April thru the 1st of July. There are many natives plants or drought-tolerance  plants that produces blooms all summer.  Flowers like lantana, daylilies, blackfoot daisy, cosmos, hibiscus, mexican heather, roses, canna, salvia and ruellia just to name a few.  Many palm trees do very well in Cedar Park and offers you that topical garden you always want. To keep color in your garden many annuals do well in Cedar Park. Periwinkle is my favorite and seems to take that hot afternoon heat with minimum watering. Cosmos  and zinnias are easy to grow and seem to do best with just planting from seeds. In the shade garden, ferns, begonias, columbine and impatiens give you the color you need.

July thru September is hard in Cedar Park because the 100 degree weather will very little rain. Everything starts looking very tried and it too hot to work in the garden. Many Central Texas gardeners use this period of time for their rest time and enjoy the many lakes around the area and enjoy the warm summer evening having a cold drink. The end of September it starts cooling down and we get some rain and many summer plants rebloom. Fall aster and mums brings color back in our garden and we are busy planting, because in Cedar Park, fall is the best time to plant shrubs and trees .
