New York Home Garden

Most of us think of New York City when we mention New York with a urban atmosphere. New York is really  dominated by farms, forests, rivers mountains, and lakes. The New York's Adirondack Park is the largest state park in the United State. "Upstate" and "Downstate" are common terms used to distinguish New York state counties north of suburban Westchester and Rockland counties on the one hand, from the New York City metropolitan area on the other.

The climate in New York usually means long and cold winters. Summers are beautiful with a average temperature between 70 to 80 degrees. New York in the summer time is a gardener paradise and New York has many beautiful botanical gardens to visit and get gardening ideas from.  Because of the long cold winters, and nothing to do but sit beside the fire and look at garden catalogs and plan your next spring garden, New York gardeners produces some of the most beautiful gardens.

New York gardens are some of the most colorful garden. If you just move to New York, and just started gardening, you will find a wide variety of beautiful flowers to grow. For garden inspiration lets look at Claude Monet's. His beautiful painting was inspired by his beautiful gardens. He was a master gardeners and he perfected his style of blending multitudes of flowers and foliage colors, textures and shape.

One of the key element he used is repetition in his design. Monet repeated color, plants, and architectural accents, which make a big impact in his garden. He also plan his garden to create interest through out the year. Monet's favorite color combinations were blue and pink, yellow and blue, red, silver and green, and blue/purple, pink and white.

New York has some of the most beautiful parks and gardens. In planning your garden space in New York, and to give color in spring, summer, and fall, flowers like roses, asters, sunflowers, larkspur, beaded iris, nasturtiums, poppies. Other favorites for New York gardens are hollyhock, lilacs, foxglove, tulips, just to name a few. If you want extra sparkle in your landscape the planting of white flowers among bright colorful flowers works. A great example is white peonies among blue, bicolored iris. For architectural detail a simple trellis with rambling roses. This also will  raise the eye's focus up and over to either side.
